What happens to the tube stations which nobody uses anymore? Funny you should ask. Seasoned Tube Talk readers may remember our earlier piece on abandoned tube stations. We’ve put together a list of our favourite alternative uses for underground stations.
Escape from the Tube
Did someone say underground team building? We did! The old station at South Kentish Town now hosts an escape room. Mission Breakout offers a variety of different escape room activities in keeping with the station’s history.
The station boasts two escape rooms. Escapees can choose between decoding secret nazi messages or evading the mysterious lost passenger (who you may remember from our Spooky Talk episode.) Forgotten Tour
There are plenty more disused bits to explore in the underground. So much so that TFL organise tours.
Organised in co-operation with the London Transport Museum, the tours take in the air raid shelter at Clapham South, Euston’s ‘lost tunnels’, and many other forgotten locations. Tourists can even explore the parts of Charing Cross featured in ‘Skyfall.’
These tours are not generally advertised, however. If you fancy taking a walk on the wild tube, subscribe to the transport museum’s newsletter and keep your eyes peeled.
Old timey tube haunt
Our next stop is not actually a former station, though it is modeled on one. Cahoots bar, over in Kingly Cross, is perfect for anyone who fancies a tube themed get together.
The bar is made in the image of a vintage Bakerloo carriage, paying homage to the Londoners forced to seek shelter underground during the Blitz.
As in the 1940s, liquor is always flowing, and revellers keep morale high with plenty of singalongs. Other entertainment includes swing dancing and jazz nights.
