Fleeting Fancies on the Underground: The Rush Hour Crush

Ever spotted someone on the tube who you think is the one for you? Fancied them from afar but never quite plucked up the courage to speak to them? Or, you’ve finally plucked up the courage, but they’re so engrossed in their phones or their music that they don’t pay any attention to you…

Well you aren’t alone! According to dating expert Elizabeth Sullivan, many of her clients find headphones are intimidating when trying to approach people on the Tube.

But natural places like the tube, or a Starbucks queue can be the perfect place to meet someone new. She told Tube Talk that even if your crush is wearing their headphones a smile can go a long way, and that often all people need, is a little bit of visual encouragement.

You can hear more of Elizabeth’s tips in our special Tube Talk Episode.

Now, if this tactic isn’t quite up your street, perhaps the Metro’s Rush Hour Crushis more your scene. If you haven’t seen it before, every weekday the Metro has a section where readers can write in about their spotted love interest. They can vary in details, one of our favourites from this week was:

“To the girl in black with the stunning make-up. You have a lovely smile. I saw you fall over on the Tube. Hopefully next time you’ll fall for me!” Lord Farquaad Lookalike
